Best Fonts for Team Jerseys & T-shirts

Posted By Kate Degen

When you hit the field with your team, it’s important to look like a team. And the best way to do that is in uniforms that make you stand out. Sure, colors and mascots are important, but choosing the right fonts for your sports uniforms is what will set your style apart from the rest.

Whether you’re on the basketball team or the baseball team or play for your school or a rec league, there’s plenty of fonts to choose from to achieve the perfect look. If you head into our Design Lab, you’ll find a ton of great fonts for your uniforms. Write your team name in your favorite font, or combine it with some of our awesome artwork. To help you out, below are some of our recommendations for the best fonts for team jerseys and shirts.

Font Categories

First, a quick lesson on fonts. There are two main font styles: serif and sans serif.

  1. A serif font has short lines at the ends of the letters, making it look less blocky, one of the most popular serif fonts that you might know is Times.
  2. Sans serif fonts are just that–a font “sans” or without serif. A common sans serif font is Arial.

There are also other font categories like script, handwritten, greek, and decorative fonts, which you’ll see in some of our examples below and categorized in our lab.

Any Player, Coach, or Fan Can Use Fonts

Confident with your skills on the field but not so much in the Design Lab? That’s a-OK. Using our fonts to make your sports crew look like winners is simple. We have all kinds of sports customers use our fonts to perfectly customize team apparel–from school sports teams, to adult intramural teams, to tournament fan gear.

Pairing Fonts

An important design element for custom gear is pairing multiple fonts. Finding two unique fonts that work together will make your design look clean and professional. You’ll see in our graphic below some of our favorite sports fonts to pair together.

For a classic sports look, pair College B with Veneer Solid. The blockiness of College B will remind you of traditional sports apparel, and Veneer Solid works with it to give it a modern and trendy look. Consider using College B for your team’s name and Veneer Solid for your subhead such as “women’s league” or “intramural soccer.”

Playing a less traditional sport like broom ball or ultimate frisbee? Give your uniforms a one of a kind look by pairing Bullet Small with Bank Gothic. Bullet Small has a futuristic vibe with varying letters in uppercase and lowercase. Because it’s so unique, a modern but simple sans serif font like Bank Gothic is the perfect complement for your design.
