To Forever Cold, I know it has been some time since you took the time to express yourself. As has been mentioned, you only have that right due to those you willingly protect those they do not know, to provide the security, peace and freedom you enjoy. You are a prime example of those that have no respect for the honor you have been given to live in a land where you are free to express yourself and live as you wish. It breaks my heart that I lost good friends while in the Corps and you are still permitted to continue on. I would challenge you to walk up to a Marine and express yourself the same way, you may find that there are some other talents that we “Brainwashed” Marines have not forgotten. Or maybe, you should wake up, and thank those that have suffered to protect you. I might also suggest that you pay the respect your Uncle deserves by know what medals he was awarded, and not refer to them as various other medals. Your Uncle, serving thru multiple wars, sounds like he was true to the Corps and his country, I wonder, have you ever told him that he was Brainwashed, do you express that you feel he has nothing going for him, or maybe, just maybe, when the wolf is at the door, you cower under the bed and cry for help, I wonder, who will come to your aide?

All the saying and slogans are not only the words, these are the true expression of our deep regards to real heroes of life who fight for us.

well said Stephanie. What gets me is all the people in this country who sit and bash the military and say stupid and hurtful things, they go trough life acting like they are entitled to something and act like fools and always say I can do what I want when I want where I want with who I want and don’t realize or recognize the only reason they can do that is because of every single person who has served in the military. if not for the brave men and women who trained hard, were pushed to the limit, were taught how to be the best Marine, or the best Naval officer, etc so they can selflessly go and fight to give you the right to do exactly that even if it is a stupid waste of time and money, even if it hurts another or makes another person uncomfortable, all these men and women have fought, have bled, who have lost limbs, who have lost their life so you can sit there and act like a stupid, selfish idiot who doesn’t have a loyal or dedicated bone in your body. Instead of bashing them, try thanking them for giving you the freedoms you have and the safety they provide for you and your family

“SEMPER FIDELIS” forever cold. That is all I can say, not everyone can earn the title Marine, nor can everyone understand it. After reading all the posts maybe you can see clearly now, past, present and future, no matter what or when, your uncles brothers and sisters came to his defense, we have never met him, but we all know him, that is a family I am proud to be apart of. God bless you and the United States Marine Corps.

    Meaning ” Always Faithful “

One Shot; two kills/ or one shot Three Kills!!

Isn’t there a 3 word motto of the Marines, such as Accept, Improvise, etc? Please help me think of it. Thank you.

  • D. Barfield

I believe you are referring to Adapt, Impervise & Overcome, a mantra that is used often in the Marine Corps, to remind Marines that we often have to overcome inferior circumstances to achieve superior results through perseverance and creative problem solving- often doing more with less. These 3 words have served me well throughout years in the Corps and more as a civilian…

  • D. Barfield

    It’s one shot- one kill,
In other words – don’t fire aimlessly, make every shot count!

Warren I love all the rebuttals – but I must say yours is my favorite,
I’ve been out of the Corps for almost 30 years now, but should the need arise , I would gladly pick up a rifle and join my fellow marines in combat ( if they’d take me- ha ha) I’d need to do a bit more PT. But I think any and all fellow Marines-( former) would do the same to protect our nation, our country, our families!
    God Bless your sir!

In reading forever cold comment, (yes, I know I’m late to the party)
But I’m reminded of Ronald Reagan’s quote-
    Referring to liberals ,
“It’s not that they are Ignorant,
It’s that they know so much, that isn’t so”-
Not sure if forever cold is indeed a liberal, but the quote definitely applies!

  • Bob Thomasson

I remember some more USMC slogans:

“The difficult we do immediately. The impossible takes us slightly longer.”

“The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war,” That was on a sign just inside the Camp Pendleton gate.

“No better friend, no worse enemy”

As I did not get to serve in the military lord knows I tried. But my family has a very long military history. Now my son is following in the footsteps of the brave who served before him. I know our family history has served in the Air Force and Army now we may add the Marines! Thank you to all who have served and to those yet to serve Thank you!! As you give up so much to protect people you don’t even know. Because of you we are free Because of you we are safe!! Because of you we have a future!! I do not understand how anyone could disrespect someone in the military. I wish just for one day all those who disrespect or don’t think being in the military is hard would have to go over to Iraq and experience first hand just what our men and women of the military have to go through day after day. In my heart and mind our young men and women serving or served in the military should be respected and appreciated more than the President!! Without all of those who have already served and those now serving we would not be the GREAT USA.
THANK YOU FROM MY HEART AND SOUL!! WE LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!! SEMPER FI. OOH RAAH

I myself am a young cousin of a United States Marine. There is another USMC saying, among the sayings used by drill instructors: “Save the drama for your mama!”
