100 Most Iconic Band T-shirts of All Time

Band t-shirts speak a visual language all their own. Each stain, moth bite, and fray mark is as unique as the tiny nicks on your vinyl collection. (For younger readers, remember scratches on your CDs?) Since the art of the band tee is so personal and, well, subjective, truly pinning down the 100 Most Iconic Band T-shirts is not a job for just one soul.

That’s why here at Custom Ink we channeled our t-shirt design and music-crazed employees to pick and vote on the 100 Most Iconic Band T-shirts of all time! Did we mention it’s the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock this week? Can you feel it in the air? If you’re still not in the spirit, please enjoy our humble contribution to the good vibes with this labor of love, music and of course, custom t-shirts.

No rage against the machine 🙁 The maroon one with the white lettering. Iconic nineties stuff…

    • Marlon Heimerl

That’s a great addition, Eve! Alas, since the article was crowdsourced, the list is a reflection of a voting process. But Rage Against the Machine is ’90s gold! Looking forward to hearing more t-shirts people wish had made the list.

    • Eve Astraea

It is an awesome list! So many designs I had forgotten about 🙂

    • Dave

      What no Van Halen logo?
      Come on, huh??

    • richard poor

I love that this list is not dated by someones youth. The fact that you took the time to find iconic shirts from different era’s and styles is much appreciated.

    • Anthony Zwick

Not only does this list not make the peak it could have including some choices, but more so by the one’s forgotten. For example…The Doors. Not just for the look of the band’s name, but for the countless images of Morrison striking dramatic poses or displaying drunken idiocy. Just look at the iconic American Prayer pose itself. Could’ve been in the top 25 to say the least.

    • Doug Clark

Any from ZZTOP is a winner!

    • Steve Chomicz

I never liked the stones tongue logo.
I wouldn’t have included the who arrow logo. I like it but I think the who’s next cover with the monolith is better and it has a symbolic story.

#2 is Cream with their artwork from the Disraeli Gears album. And CSNY should be listed. I agree with Anthony that The Doors should be included.

where is Sgt. Pepper or With the Beatles?

It might be fairer to list the top ten of each decade.

      Peace
