Posted By Kate Degen

There are a few elements that go into creating a custom t-shirt, like picking colors, graphics, or sayings to go on your one-of-a-kind piece. For getting your message across, picking the right font can be a game-changer. With so many to pick from, how do you choose? We’re here to help you make the task less daunting.

Whether you’re customizing tees for your business, charity, school, or fun event, we have fonts in a range of styles for every occasion. Just head into our Design Lab, and you’ll find all of our fonts by category that you can use on your design.

To help you get started, below are some of our favorite fonts for custom t-shirts, carefully selected by our Design Resources Team. Our experts curate our art library, fonts, and design ideas to ensure customers have the very best design experience.

Font Categories

Let’s start with a quick primer on fonts. There are two main font styles: serif and sans serif.

  1. A serif font has short lines at the ends of the letters, making it look less blocky. One of the most popular serif fonts that you might know is Times.
  2. Sans serif fonts are just that–a font “sans” or without serif. A common sans serif font is Arial.

There’s also other font categories like script, handwritten, greek, and decorative fonts, which you’ll see in some of our examples below and categorized in our lab.

Using the right font or fonts on your gear can really elevate your final look. Fonts can give your company or team name the right amount of flair to make it jump off of the tee, or using subtle fonts can make your graphic really shine. Anyone Can Use Fonts (Yes, Even You!)

Maybe you’re more into numbers or working with your hands than you are designing t-shirts. That’s ok! We make it easy for anyone with any skill set to use fonts on their gear. We have customers in all kinds of industries use the fonts in our lab to personalize apparel–from sporting events, to charity fundraisers, and business uniforms!

Pairing Fonts

Once you find some fonts that speak to you, it’s time to pair them. Using two complementary fonts will take your design to the next level and make it look professionally made. In our graphic below, you’ll see some of our favorite fonts to pair together.

For a look that’s elegant but modern, we’d pair Vodka Brush with Vodka Regular. How perfect would these two look on t-shirts for your bar or restaurant–and they’re named appropriately, too! The Vodka Brush script will fancy up your name, while the Vodka Regular as supporting text makes your message or tagline easy to read.

For a fun and playful look, pair Handelson Four with Unkempt. This would look great on t-shirts for your paint studio, children’s store, or even your coffee shop. Handelson Four is an easy to read brushed font that’s a little bit more exciting than a traditional sans serif. It goes nicely with Unkempt’s handwritten look. And, Handelson Four’s slightly mixed baseline (the line all the letters “sit” on) gives it a playful edge.
