Congratulations to our Family Reunion Contest Winner

Congratulations to our T-Shirts & Genes Family Reunion Contest grand prize winner, Darcel Green! We were inspired by the fact that Darcel and her family coordinate a gathering every year in Alabama for more than 200 family members. And they’ve been doing it for over 30 years!

“Our annual family reunion began in 1982. Over 200 of us gather from near and far to celebrate it each year the 2nd weekend in August in our family’s hometown, Livingston, Alabama. It’s very unique because of the generations of family represented. Collectively, we’re the Field Smith Green Mayes Family which is displayed on our T-Shirts each year. The four branches represent my Great-Grandmother’s generation. This year, we will celebrate our 33rd reunion. It’s a pivotal year because we lost several relatives in 2014; one of them was my grandmother who helped keep the reunion going for all of these years. Last year, we held a torch passing ceremony in which my grandmother & her siblings passed the torch (responsibility of keeping the reunion going) onto the younger generation. I received a torch and would use this money to reinvigorate and keep our reunion alive for years to come!”
