That’s why we’re beyond excited about the brand new mascots that have been added to our library. These lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) are available in color and black and white. Not only that, but we’re excited to show off our cuter kiddo-friendly mascots that are perfect for elementary schools!

We know you’ve got that bulldog pride or that tiger spirit, but where did school mascots even come from? Here are few fun facts about the history of the beloved mascot:

– The word “mascot” comes from the French term “mascotte,” meaning lucky charm.

– Animals were historically used in hopes to strike fear into the hearts of rivals. (Cooperstown Cobras? No thanks!)

– In the 1960s, the switch from vicious predator to the life-size three-dimensional versions we’re familiar with today came about courtesy of The Muppets. Ever since, mascots became a great marketing tool for schools and companies.

Not all mascots are the standard eagle or ram—check out 31 of the most unusual high school mascots. Is your school mascot totally unique? Tell us all about your fighting fishermen or horned toads in the comments below!

A good design can be just the push students, parents, and staff need to buy new t-shirts, hoodies, or hats to show off their team spirit. With the help of our carefully curated clipart and easily interchangeable design templates, CustomInk is ready to create the perfect custom apparel to show off your school pride!
