Ink of the Week winner

“For Pete’s Sake” wins this week’s Ink of the Week contest!

“My father, Pete Burke, passed away suddenly in April. He lived at the beach in Brigantine, NJ, so we decided to have a seaside memorial/party for him in August. His 15 grandchildren, five children and over a hundred of his friends, neighbors and family attended the event.

My dad was quite a philanthropist, and donated much of his time and business expertise to the LEAP Academy Charter School in Camden, NJ. After his passing, his workplace, friends and family started the Peter. J. Burke, Jr. Scholarship Fund at the charter school to help graduates fulfill their dream of going to college. We sold the shirts at my dad’s memorial to raise money for the fund and to continue my his legacy. Hence, the motto on the shirt, “For Pete’s Sake”.

Pictured in this photo are his grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. We took a few serious photos and then told them to be silly. It’s much more fun to be silly, and their Pop-Pop would’ve loved it!

The shirts were a huge hit. The process of designing them was simple and stress-free. We received them faster than I predicted.

We plan to have this event each year to celebrate my dad’s life. I will be designing a new shirt for each party, so we can continue raising money for the scholarship fund.”
